Lucknow's 'Tree Baba': A man on a mission to make the city green and clean

Tree Baba, who is presently busy transforming the barren land of Gulala ghat cremation ground into a lush-green area sans the usual pile of garbage, voluntarily picks up garbage from the streets, plants trees and waters them without seeking any help from anyone.

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh): Riding on a green-colored bicycle, a saffron-robed man can be spotted around Uttar Pradesh's capital Lucknow picking up garbage and planting trees. Manish Tiwari, lovingly called 'Tree Baba', is a man on a mission to make Lucknow green and clean, and he has dedicated his life to the cause.

Tree Baba, who is presently busy transforming the barren land of Gulala ghat cremation ground into a lush-green area sans the usual pile of garbage, voluntarily picks up garbage from the streets, plants trees and waters them without seeking any help from anyone.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Tiwari AKA Tree Baba said, "I draw inspiration from Mahaveer Swami, a propagator of Jain religion, who preaches the idea of planting trees and believes that the world can be made a better place if more trees are planted."

"You can't depend on the government to do everything for you, sometimes you have to take the first step," added Tiwari while watering plants.
