On the occasion of 74th Independence Day, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi hoisted the national flag at Madina Circle in Hyderabad, Telangana on Saturday. After the flag hoisting ceremony, those present on the occasion sang the national anthem after which Owaisi released tricolour balloons in the air, as part of the celebration.

In view of COVID-19, several people present on the occasion were seen in tricolour face masks. Celebrations for the Independence Day in Telangana and around the country were low-key owing to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

PM Modi breaks taboos, talks about sanitary napkins in Independence Day speech

In his address on the occasion of 74th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted among other things his government's efforts for women empowerment and also broke various taboos against menstruation by speaking about sanitary pads.

"We have worked for women empowerment. Navy and Air Force are taking women in combat. Women are now leaders, and we abolished triple talaq, got sanitary pads to women for just 1 rupee," said PM Modi in his speech.

Further stressing on women empowerment, PM Modi said, "My dear countrymen, our experience says that whenever there is an opportunity for women power in India, they have brought laurels to the country, strengthened the country. Today, women are not only working in underground coal mines but also flying fighter planes, touching new heights in the sky."

PM Modi announces Project Lion and Project Dolphin to preserve biodiversity

In his address on the occasion of 74th Independence Day of the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced two projects, Project Lion and Project Dolphin, to preserve the biodiversity of the nation. He also said that a special campaign is being worked out with a holistic approach to reduce pollution in 100 selected cities of the country.

"India is among the few nations where the forest cover is increasing. India is fully sensitive to the preservation and promotion of its biodiversity. In the recent past, the tiger population has increased at a rapid pace in the country! Now a Project Lion for our Asiatic lions is also going to start in the country," said the Prime Minister. 

He said the new Project Dolphin will focus on both river and the sea dolphins. It will not only strengthen the biodiversity of the nation but also attract tourism and generate jobs. "A special campaign is also being worked on with a holistic approach to reduce pollution in 100 selected cities of the country," the Prime Minister added.

Greeting the country on its 74th Independence Day at Indira Gandhi Municipal (IGM) Stadium in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Saturday said that he is proud of his 14 month-old government for upholding all constitutional values. 

"I am proud to say that last 14 months rule followed justice, liberty, equality and fraternity mentioned in the first page of the constitution of India," said Andhra CM. 

He added that his government is implementing the "nava ratnas", the promises made during the election campaign so that there is no discrimination in the rule.

Indian Army dogs Vida, Sophie get 'Commendation Cards' on I-Day

Indian Army dogs Vida and Sophie awarded the Chief of Army Staff 'Commendation Cards' on the 74th Independence Day this year, for their role in different operations. Commendations Cards are given to dogs for good performance while performing the duty. 

In December last year, in a bid to increase the operational capabilities of its troops, the Army has developed an audio-video surveillance system integrated with a protective bulletproof jacket, which can be mounted stealthily on the Army dogs to receive information about location and strength of enemy from a safe distance. 

Equipped with the gadget, the Army dogs can spy on the enemy location from close quarters. The camera and transmitter send the information on the receiver that can be at a safe distance up to one-km from the enemy location. 

"The Silent Warriors" as the Army dog unit is fondly called have indeed proven to be an asset for the security forces. They are truly the warriors India needs to stay safe.

Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday extended greetings to the nation on the occasion of 74th Independence Day.

Remembering a quote of India's first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, he tweeted. "The only alternative to coexistence is destruction. Jawaharlal Nehru. Best wishes on Independence Day."

Extending the wishes to the country on the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, "Happy Independence Day to all fellow Indians. Jai Hind!"

Kejriwal Remembers Bhagat Singh, Mahatma Gandhi, Others On I-Day

Independence Day is an occasion to remember the freedom fighters from Bhagat Singh to Mahatma Gandhi who sacrificed everything so that we could breathe freely, said Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday.

"Today is the day for remembering all those who sacrificed their lives for getting independence from the British. Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, Ashfaqullah Khan, among lakhs of others gave the supreme sacrifice for the nation," Kejriwal said.

"Mahatma Gandhi, Babasaheb Ambedkar, Sardar Patel, Jawaharlal Nehru, and many others put their everything at stake. But today is also the day for remembering those who made the supreme sacrifice in the last 73 years since Independence for the country," he said

The reason that the countrymen are able to live and breathe freely is because of the sacrifice of these great people, he added.
He further thanked the people of Delhi for keeping the coronavirus situation under check and for decreasing the pollution level by 25 percent in the past five years.

"The pollution level in Delhi reduced by 25 percent in the past five years. The pollution level in 2020 is 25 percent less than the level in 2015. We are not happy with this, we need to take more steps and we will decrease it further," Kejriwal said.
He also highlighted the success of the people's fight against dengue and said that the ongoing battle against COVID-19 was currently under control and will be won in the long run.

"The Delhi model is taking people, organisations, institutions, and governments together. It is due to the combined efforts of all that the COVID-19 situation is under check. I thank the Centre, religious organisations, NGOs, Corona warriors among others for their contribution in the fight against the disease," he said.

Multilayered security arrangements, social distancing norms in place for I-Day

Multi-layered security arrangements and measures to ensure social distancing are in place for the 74th Independence Day celebrations at the Mughal-era Red Fort this year.

A security ring, including NSG snipers, elite SWAT commandos and kite catchers, will be placed around the Red Fort from where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation.

Over 300 cameras have been installed for security and their footage is being monitored round-the-clock, police said.

There will be around 4,000 security personnel at the Red Fort and they will stand in adherence with social distancing norms, they said.

The Delhi Police has made multilayered arrangements in connection with the Independence Day celebrations. Necessary coordination has been made with other agencies like the NSG, SPG and ITBP.

I-Day celebrations: Beating retreat, BSF musical performance take place at Attari-Wagah border

The Attari-Wagah border witnessed jubilant celebrations on August 14, a day ahead of the Independence Day.  

However, the day was celebrated less audience due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The beating retreat ceremony, an elaborate ritual of lowering the national flags of both the countries just before the sunset, took place as it does every year, followed by a musical performance by the Border Security Force band.

Meanwhile, the North Block and South Block of the Parliament House, and the India Gate illuminated with bright colours on the occasion.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the nation in celebrating the 74th Independence Day at the Red Fort in the national capital on Saturday. He will unfurl the national flag and deliver the customary address to the nation from the ramparts of the iconic monument.

Major Shweta Pandey will assist PM Narendra Modi in unfurling the national flag during the 74th Independence Day celebration tomorrow.  

She was part of an Indian military contingent at the Victory Day Parade in Moscow in June this year.

The flag officer Major Shweta Pandey is an EME (electronics and mechanical engineers) officer from the Indian Army’s 505 base workshop.

In December last year, in a bid to increase the operational capabilities of its troops, the Army has developed an audio-video surveillance system integrated with a protective bulletproof jacket, which can be mounted stealthily on the Army dogs to receive information about location and strength of enemy from a safe distance. 

Equipped with the gadget, the Army dogs can spy on the enemy location from close quarters. The camera and transmitter send the information on the receiver that can be at a safe distance up to one-km from the enemy location. 

"The Silent Warriors" as the Army dog unit is fondly called have indeed proven to be an asset for the security forces. They are truly the warriors India needs to stay safe.

Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday extended greetings to the nation on the occasion of 74th Independence Day.

Remembering a quote of India's first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, he tweeted. "The only alternative to coexistence is destruction. Jawaharlal Nehru. Best wishes on Independence Day."

Extending the wishes to the country on the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, "Happy Independence Day to all fellow Indians. Jai Hind!"

Kejriwal Remembers Bhagat Singh, Mahatma Gandhi, Others On I-Day

Independence Day is an occasion to remember the freedom fighters from Bhagat Singh to Mahatma Gandhi who sacrificed everything so that we could breathe freely, said Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday.

"Today is the day for remembering all those who sacrificed their lives for getting independence from the British. Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, Ashfaqullah Khan, among lakhs of others gave the supreme sacrifice for the nation," Kejriwal said.

"Mahatma Gandhi, Babasaheb Ambedkar, Sardar Patel, Jawaharlal Nehru, and many others put their everything at stake. But today is also the day for remembering those who made the supreme sacrifice in the last 73 years since Independence for the country," he said

The reason that the countrymen are able to live and breathe freely is because of the sacrifice of these great people, he added.
He further thanked the people of Delhi for keeping the coronavirus situation under check and for decreasing the pollution level by 25 percent in the past five years.

"The pollution level in Delhi reduced by 25 percent in the past five years. The pollution level in 2020 is 25 percent less than the level in 2015. We are not happy with this, we need to take more steps and we will decrease it further," Kejriwal said.
He also highlighted the success of the people's fight against dengue and said that the ongoing battle against COVID-19 was currently under control and will be won in the long run.

"The Delhi model is taking people, organisations, institutions, and governments together. It is due to the combined efforts of all that the COVID-19 situation is under check. I thank the Centre, religious organisations, NGOs, Corona warriors among others for their contribution in the fight against the disease," he said.

Multilayered security arrangements, social distancing norms in place for I-Day

Multi-layered security arrangements and measures to ensure social distancing are in place for the 74th Independence Day celebrations at the Mughal-era Red Fort this year.

A security ring, including NSG snipers, elite SWAT commandos and kite catchers, will be placed around the Red Fort from where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation.

Over 300 cameras have been installed for security and their footage is being monitored round-the-clock, police said.

There will be around 4,000 security personnel at the Red Fort and they will stand in adherence with social distancing norms, they said.

The Delhi Police has made multilayered arrangements in connection with the Independence Day celebrations. Necessary coordination has been made with other agencies like the NSG, SPG and ITBP.

I-Day celebrations: Beating retreat, BSF musical performance take place at Attari-Wagah border

The Attari-Wagah border witnessed jubilant celebrations on August 14, a day ahead of the Independence Day.  

However, the day was celebrated less audience due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The beating retreat ceremony, an elaborate ritual of lowering the national flags of both the countries just before the sunset, took place as it does every year, followed by a musical performance by the Border Security Force band.

Meanwhile, the North Block and South Block of the Parliament House, and the India Gate illuminated with bright colours on the occasion.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the nation in celebrating the 74th Independence Day at the Red Fort in the national capital on Saturday. He will unfurl the national flag and deliver the customary address to the nation from the ramparts of the iconic monument.

New Delhi: A woman army officer will assist Prime Minister Narendra Modi in unfurling the national flag during the 74th Independence Day function at the Red Fort, said a curtain-raiser issued by the defence ministry on Friday.  

Major Shweta Pandey will assist PM Narendra Modi in unfurling the national flag during the 74th Independence Day celebration tomorrow.  

She was part of an Indian military contingent at the Victory Day Parade in Moscow in June this year.

The flag officer Major Shweta Pandey is an EME (electronics and mechanical engineers) officer from the Indian Army’s 505 base workshop.
