'Kargil Vijay Run' conducted to remember war heroes

Kargil Vijay Run was flagged off from Vijay Chowk to remember the sacrifices made by our brave soldiers during the Kargil War. It concluded at India Gate. Around 6500 people participated in the event. India celebrates Kargil Vijay Diwas annually on July 26 and this year marks the 20th anniversary of the victory in the war.

New Delhi: The 20th-anniversary celebration of Kargil Vijay Diwas started off with Kargil Vijay Run. The event was flagged off on Sunday by Lieutenant-General Ashwani Kumar from Vijay Chowk. The run concluded at India Gate.

Around 6500 people participated in the event organised by the Indian Army including soldiers and officers of Armed Forces, personnel of Central armed police forces and civilians.

According to Director of National War memorial Colonel Digvijay Singh Basera, this event is to commemorate the sacrifices made by our brave soldiers and to remind the nation to have faith in the armed forces as they have always stood and never been defeated.

"This run is also being conducted to convey our enemies that anybody who tries to interfere with the integrity and sovereignty of our nation will face the consequences what we showed them in Kargil," he added.

July 26 is celebrated annually in India as Kargil Vijay Diwas. The Kargil war was fought for more than 60 days which ended on 26 July after regaining all the high outposts which had been lost to Pakistani intruders.

The theme of this year’s 20th anniversary of Kargil War is ‘Remember, Rejoice and Renew’, according to a press release by the Ministry of Defence. “We ‘remember’ our martyrs, by revisiting the sacrifices and instilling pride and respect among us, we ‘rejoice’ by celebrating the victory in Kargil and we ‘renew’ our resolve to safeguard the honour of the Tricolour,” the press release added.

Intro:New Delhi: To celebrate sacrifice of brave soldiers and victory over Pakistan, Kargil Vijay Run was conducted. The run saw a huge participation of citizens who ran from Vijay Chowk to iconic India Gate.

During the run around 6500 people took part which include soldiers and officers of Armed Foeces, personnel of Central armed police forces, civilians and teenagers.

Adjutant General Lieutenant General Ashwini Kumar flagged off the race from Vijay where the Army band was also present to raise the enthusiasm level of the Participants.

On this Occasion ETV Bharat spoke to Director of National War memorial Colonel Devesh Bashera where he said, this is a important day for us because all the armed forces got together and we defeated our enemy and to commemorate the sacrifice made by our brave soldiers and to remind the nation that the armed forces have always stood and never been defeated.
