Dras (Jammu and Kashmir): On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Kargil, Indian Army organised an event in the Dras military field on Friday to showcase the weapons used during the Kargil war in 1999 to defeat Pakistan.
The weapons were exhibited by the military personnel before media and civilians with a detailed elaboration of its functioning.
Indian defence analysts and ex-military officials believe that the Pakistani Army was successful in crossing the border of Dras and Kargil due to reduction in surveillance on the border by the Indian Army.
After three months of war and bloodshed, the Indian Army repatriated the Pakistani Army which claimed the lives of hundreds of soldiers who defended the nation with grit and valour.
After the success of 'Operation Vijay' the Army inducted new surveillance equipment which was also displayed during the exhibition.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, Army officer Ashok Kumar stated that the new technology has improved the combat techniques of the Army and it has proved to be useful in the extreme cold borders of Ladakh.
The weapons are equipped with technologies using radar which helps in spotting the enemy from long distances and the surveillance equipment helps in tracing the enemy by revealing its accurate direction.
On this date in 1999, India successfully took command of the high outposts which had been lost to Pakistan.
