Srinagar: An unidentified militant and a soldier were killed in a gunfight in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district on Wednesday, officials said here.
One of the two Indian Army soldiers who suffered injuries during an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama today, is in a critical condition. Sepoy Julajit Yadav is undergoing treatment at a hospital after he received a bullet injury on his chest.
An encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in the early hours of Wednesday in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama.
"One soldier laid down his life in the line of duty. The search operation is in progress," the Army informed earlier.
A terrorist was neutralised in the encounter, which came three days ahead of Independence Day in orchards of Kamrazipora village of the district.

Agencies also recovered a cache of arms from the encounter site. One AK along with grenades, pouches and other war-like stores were recovered, the Army said. Another sepoy Vikas received bullet injury in the knee in the exchange of fire
Security forces launched a search operation in an orchard in Kamrazipora village of Pulwama in the early hours of the day on receiving information about the presence of militants there, they said.
The officials said the search operation turned into an encounter after the militants opened fire, injuring two soldiers. The injured security personnel were rushed to an Army hospital, where one of them succumbed, they said.
One militant was also killed in the gunfight, the officials said, adding that an AK rifle and a few grenades were recovered from the encounter site.The identity and affiliation of the slain militant are being ascertained, they added.

Meanwhile, a joint operation, which was launched on Tuesday evening by Jammu and Kashmir Police and Indian Army here in Budgam, is under progress, Chinar Corps - Indian Army said. Cordon was laid and contact established by the forces after operation Kamrazipora in Budgam started.
