Jammu and Kashmir: Army foils infiltration attempt along LoC, two terrorists killed

Srinagar: Two terrorists were killed on Saturday as the Army foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Naugam sector of Jammu and Kashmir, a defence spokesperson said. 

The Army said that troops laid an ambush after suspicious movement was detected along the Line of Control (LoC).

In the encounter that followed, two infiltrators were gunned down. Arms and ammunition, including two AK-47 rifles, were recovered.

Virendra Vats, Major General, GOC 19 Division, said, "Today, our troops along LoC in Nougam sector detected suspicious movement originating from Pakistani Post in the area. Apt response was taken to eliminate 2 terrorists who were trying to infiltrate by cutting anti-infiltration fence. Launchpads were fully occupied after receiving specific intelligence inputs. At least 250-300 terrorists are presently occupying the launchpad."

Security forces recovered currencies worth Rs 1.5 lakh assault rifles, pistol and grenades from the possession of slain terrorists

"Recoveries from the slain terrorists include 2 AK assault rifles with 12 filled magazines, a pistol, magazines, some grenades. We've also recovered about 1.5 Lakhs in Indian & Pakistani currency. The search operation is still underway in the area," Major General added.

"Early morning today, suspicious movement was detected by our troops at Naugam sector, in Handwara, Kupwara district along the LoC. The forces swiftly launched an ambush in which two terrorists were gunned down," the Army said.

"Two AK-47A and warlike stores recovered," they added.

Earlier in June, Army had foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control in the same area.  

"A patrol team of the Indian Army along the LoC spotted a group of Pakistani terrorists trying to infiltrate into Indian territory. The infiltrators retrieved back under the cover of darkness and inclement weather," an army spokesperson had said.
