New Delhi: India's COVID-19 death tally breached the one lakh mark, with 1,069 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said on Saturday.
"With 79,476 new cases, the tally reached 64,73,545 including 9,44,996 active cases, 54,27,707 cured/discharged/migrated cases and 1,00,842 deaths," the Health Ministry said today.
India is the second worst-hit nation in terms of COVID-19 cases after the US, while it is in the third spot in terms of fatalities globally after the US and Brazil.

Pertinently, the health ministry had yesterday stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths in India occurred due to comorbidities.
In terms of total cases. India's COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20 lakh-mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23 and 40 lakh on September 5. It went past the 50 lakh-mark on September 16 and crossed 60 lakh on September 28.
