New Delhi: Re-emphasising its neighbourhood first policy, India has agreed to provide a coastal surveillance system to Bangladesh. Both countries have signed a Memorandum of Understanding in this regard today.
With this, Bangladesh will be the fourth country to which India will be providing the coastal surveillance system to strengthen its maritime security. So far, Seychelles, Myanmar and Maldives were the countries with whom India had this deal.
PM Modi who first visited Maldives post his re-election inaugurated the coastal radar system given to it by India.
Government sources have told ETV Bharat that the demand for coastal surveillance system came from Bangladesh who wants to focus more on its maritime domain.
Not only this, countries have decided to take the relationship forward in the LPG segment as well. Government sources have revealed that the MoU will generate $17 million business for Bangladesh.
Government of India appreciates the heroic task undertaken by the government of Bangladesh to host so many Rohingya refugees. GOI sources claimed that it is doing everything to support Bangladesh in its effort. So far, India has invested Rs. 120 crore for repatriation of Rohingya refugees.
