New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal, on Saturday questioned the non-inclusion of 'Delivery of Justice' in the essential services of COVID-19 lockdown, while urging the judiciary to consider the issue, a source said.
"In this country, are judicial services not essential? justice delivery is not essential? I don't see any policy from the judiciary that is an essential service we have a plan to ensure that people who need urgent relief, get it," Sibal said.
"This cannot be decided by the government because the judiciary is an independent entity. Just as other services are essential, delivery of justice to is equally important. This is very much essential in fact as everyday somebody or the other needs a judge in an urgent matter to decide his case at district, state, High Court or even at Supreme Court level," he added.
When questioned about the urgent hearing of the case of Republic TV head, Arnab Goswami on Friday, Kapil Sibal, who was the representative of Maharashtra Government, replied, "This is something of the prerogative of Chief Justice of India. But this fact is true, that some matters are listed in the court overnight, some matters are never listed, there must be some rationale behind it."

Sibal also raised a question on Prime Minister's 'Make in India' initiative while mentioning about the Rafael fighter jet deal. He said that India must be self-reliant but from last 6 years, our country is relying on others as most of the things are being manufactured outside the country.
He also asserted on the need to revamp the education and health sector of the country after the lockdown. "The government should leave past issues of NRC and CAA. Center needs to focus on this current crisis of pandemic, and make a strategical plan while considering the suggestions given by opposition parties to fight against COVID-19," Sibal exclaimed.
