Bengaluru: The monsoon rains lashing parts of Karnataka - the third massive showers this year has caused huge property and crop losses.
In August, several districts of North Karnataka were flooded due to heavy rain. According to the Revenue Department's report, 3.57 lakh hectares of farm crop was damaged due to the flood, 52,000 hectares of horticultural crop was lost and 50 thousand hectares of plantation faced crop damage. A total of 4.60 lakh hectares of crop damage caused a loss of Rs. 6,006 crore. According to the SRF rule Rs. 408 crore rupees worth of crop losses were estimated.
A total of 21,173 km roads were spoilt or destroyed. This resulted in an estimated loss of Rs 2,428 crore. A total of 2,758 bridges were damaged at an estimated loss of Rs 460 crore. About 13,573 houses were damaged, amounting to Rs 159.33 crore. A total of 3,669 government buildings were damaged, causing a loss of Rs 89 crore. Damage to infrastructure amounted to a total loss of Rs 3,260 crore.
The total crop loss in the month of September was 5.11 lakh hectares. A total of 35 thousand hectares of plantation crop was lost, Also plantation crop damage was around 4000 hectares and the total crop loss was 5.50 lakh hectares, an estimated loss of Rs 3,933 crore. A total of Rs 405 crores was lost as per the SDRF rule.
Total loss of infrastructure was pegged at Rs. 1,590 crores. 15,108 crore loss was incurred due to rain from July 25 to September. A total of 1,306 crore loss under the SDRF rule.
According to the Revenue Department's preliminary loss estimate due to rainfall till August 15 is 2,29,956 hectares of crops. 24,811 hectares of the horticultural crop too was lost.
A total of 7,192 homes were partially damaged, while 879 homes were completely damaged. A total of 554 smaller animals were killed, while 55 larger ones too perished. The full extent of the damage is still being estimated.
From the month of August to the 14th of October, the state suffered a tremendous flood, causing a lot of death and damage in its wake. A total of 80 deaths in the state was reported. Raichur had the highest number of deaths, with 18 people perishing.
In August, 344 animals were killed due to rains. The estimated loss was Rs 1.76 crore. The number of animal deaths in the month of September month is 495, with an estimated loss of Rs 2.72 crore.
