New Delhi: Delhi's Crime Branch has nabbed a notorious arms smuggler Irshad who had allegedly supplied over 100 illegal weapons to gangs in the National Capital Region (NCR).
Police have seized a carbine, 40 cm automatic pistol and 20 magazines from the accused Irshad.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ram Gopal Nayak said that Irshad was the key supplier of arms to gangsters in Delhi-NCR. Most of the weapons used in criminal activities in the region were supplied by him.
According to reports, Irshad a resident of Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh used to work at a cloth export company. Later, he got involved in drugs' smuggling.
Earlier in 2016, he was arrested at an airport while drugs smuggling. After being released from the jail in November 2018, he didn't get any job and came in contact with the local goons. During this period he met various gangs in Delhi and started supplying arms to them.
Reportedly, Irshad used to buy pistols for Rs 10 to 15 thousand from a village in Madhya Pradesh and sell it for Rs 35 to 45 thousand to miscreants of Delhi-NCR. He has been involved in this illegal trade for almost a year now.
Nayak said, " A probe has been initiated into the matter. We hope to get more details about his operation and the people associated with him."
