New Delhi: Former Delhi Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Sheila Dikshit, passes away in Delhi at the age of 81 years. She was suffering from heart ailment for a long time.
According to a Statement from Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, Sheila Dikshit was brought in the morning on 20th July 2019 following a cardiac arrest.
A multi-disciplinary team of doctors, led by Dr Ashok Seth carried out the advanced resuscitative measures. Her condition stabilised temporarily.
However, she had another cardiac arrest and despite all the resuscitative efforts, breathed her last at 3:55pm.
Her cremation will be held at the Nigambodh Ghat tomorrow, Sunday, 21st July, 2019 between 2.30 pm.
Her mortal remains will be kept for people to pay homage at her residence B-2, Nizamuddin East, New Delhi from 6.00 pm on 20th July to 11.30 a.m tomorrow, 21st July.
She was longest serving chief minister of the state.

Sheila Dikshit was born on March 31, 1938 in Kapurthala, Punjab. She did her primary schooling at the Convent of Jesus and Mary School, New Delhi.
Sheila Dikshit pursued her Masters in History from Miranda House College of the University of Delhi. She also holds a Doctorate in Philosophy from the University of Delhi.
She was married to Vinod Dikshit an IAS officer.
Sheila Dikshit's son Sandeep Dikshit is a member of the Indian National Congress. He was also a Member of Parliament (MP) in the 15th Lok Sabha of India.
In the 1970s, Sheila Dikshit was the chairperson of the Young Women’s Association.
Besides, Sheila Dikshit's entry into Indian politics was accidental .
The former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was impressed with her administrative skills and nominated Dikshit as an Indian delegate of the United Nations Commission on the status of women (CSW).
This marked her entry into the Indian politics and her stride eventually made her the head of affairs in Delhi for 15 years starting from 1998 to 2013.
