Guwahati: Super Cop Tapan Kumar Deka, likely to be appointed as the next Deputy General of Police(DGP) of Assam.
Deka was a former leader of All Assam Students' Union and played a crucial role in Assam Agitation.
He belonged to the 1988 Himachal Pradesh cadre IPS batch. He has been looking after the NRC proceedings in Assam from 2016.
The present DGP of Assam Kuladhar Saikia is slated to retire on the 31st of August which coincides with the date of the release of the final draft of NRC.
He is a specialist in counter-terrorism. He handled the counter-insurgency operations related to ULFA from 1993-2001.
He was the head of National Anti-terror wing of IB and led anti-terrorist operations.
