New Delhi: In a welcome initiative, Indian Railways with the help of its PSU, Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC), has started free distribution of 10,000 Rail Neer water bottles per day, from April 16, in New Delhi. These water bottles are of one litre each.
In an official statement, Railways quoted, "Braving hot summers and tiring conditions on the ground, these policemen have worked round the clock to not only ensure that lockdown is implemented as required but also to accompany the doctors and paramedics in various locations in challenging circumstances."
It further stated, "Recently, it has started to provide 10,000 water bottles per day to the Delhi Police personnel who have been out on the streets on war against COVID-19. Till now, 50000 water bottles have been distributed."
On Monday, Indian Railways also crossed the mark of distributing two million free hot cooked meals during the national lockdown.
Vice President of India, Venkaiah Naidu also appreciated the efforts of Railways in his tweet, saying, "Compliments to Indian Railways for distributing over 2 million free hot cooked meals to the needy during the lockdown. These appreciable initiative is helping daily wagers, migrant labourers, coolies, children, homeless and poor during the unprecedented situation created by COVID-19."
