COVID-19 patient declared dead by Gujarat district health officer found alive

A COVID-19 patient from Adalaj village in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar district, who was declared dead by the district health officer on May 1, was later found alive in the Intensive Care Unit of the Ahmedabad Cancer Hospital.

Gandhinagar (Gujarat): A 40 -year-old COVID-19 patient from Adalaj village in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar district, who was declared dead by the district health officer on May 1, was later found alive in the Intensive Care Unit of the Ahmedabad Cancer Hospital which has been converted into a COVID-19 facility.

The patient was diagnosed with coronavirus disease on April 30.

Ever since the incident came to light, instead of owning responsibility for medical negligence the district health officer is passing the buck to the medical officer, who is instead blaming other district officials.

Gujarat has recorded the second-highest number of COVID-19 cases so far after neighbouring Maharashtra. A majority of the infected patients are from Ahmedabad.

It crossed the 7,000-mark - in terms of coronavirus cases - on Thursday and recorded 29 deaths, talking the toll to 425.
