New Delhi: A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a Rs 20 Lakh crore stimulus package and gave a slogan of "be vocal for local" to the nation, the Congress party "sincerely hoped" that these promises will not be "hollow" ones and would be implemented effectively.

In a video message, Congress spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill said, "PM's slogan has exposed the government's sheer hypocrisy and double game. After getting the statue of unity of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel built from Chinese material, the PM is now this slogan. BJP is known for its catchy slogans and sketchy implementations."

"If the central government truly wants to make locals successful, then BJP has to wake up the paper tiger of 'Make in India' by ensuring increase in industrial output growth, increasing manufacturing growth, and by ensuring employment. Government needs to get dependent upon the Small and Medium enterprises to make India self-dependent," he further suggested.

Earlier yesterday, PM Modi had announced a massive financial package of Rs 20 lakh crore, which is equivalent to 10 per cent of the country's GDP, aiming to revive the economy. However, divergent views have emerged from the Congress party, with some leaders welcoming the announcements while others dubbing it as just "headline hunting".

"BJP is an expert in 'showing stars in a broad daylight' to people. We sincerely hope that the promise of Rs 20 lakh crore is not made in the same factory and not being stitched with the same cloth as a promise of Rs 15 lakh to each Indian, cleaning Ganga, making a $5 trillion economy, ensuring 2 crore jobs every year and the promise of demonetization ending terrorism," Shergill said.

"This time BJP should ensure that they 'walk the talk', otherwise the people will know that they are high on ideation and zero on implementation. PM's intention and words should be matched with the Finance Minister and the people will only trust the government when they actually receive money in their own pockets," he asserted.

Earlier today, senior Congress leader P Chidambaram took to Twitter and said that the PM in his address gave a "blank page" and he'll carefully examine what the bottom half of the population will get in terms of "real money".

"Today, we look forward to the FM filling the Blank Page. We will carefully count every additional rupee that the government will actually in fuse into economy. The first thing we will look for is what the poor, hungry and devastated migrant workers can expect after they have walked hundred of kilometres to their home states," he said.
