Hyderabad: September 27, 2019 would be recorded as the Black Day in the history of United Nations General Assembly. Even at the peak of the cold war between the United States of America and erstwhile USSR, UNGA was never used as a stage to make nuclear threats. It was on this platform most critical problems have been amicably resolved in the past through cordial talks. Mutual differences have been expressed with civility and dialogue. The solution of the Cuban Missile crisis could also be made possible on the UN platform itself.
Perhaps for the first time in the history of the United Nations, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has shaken the foundation of this institution by challenging India for a nuclear war. When he spoke at the United Nations, for a moment one felt that it was Hafiz Saeed, the founder of the terror organization Lashkar-e-Toiba, addressing the august gathering not the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
The sole intent of this inflammatory and vitriolic speech of Imran Khan was a desperate attempt to attract the attention of the international community on the question of Kashmir.
During the last seven days, Imran Khan in New York has tried hard to build a momentum against India on Kashmir, but has failed miserably. Except for China and Turkey, no country supported Pakistan.
Alis Wells, South Asia affairs officer in the US State Department, exposed the Muslim rant of Imran, retorting why is Mr. Khan completely silent on the atrocities with Uyghar Muslims in China? He asked Pakistan to mend its language.
Even the leaders of China and Turkey were not in agreement with Imran when he said that Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi is today's Hitler and Mussolini. Imran expressed disappointment in the press conference that the international community is evading the Kashmir issue. Completely desperate and frustrated, he spewed venom against India and Narendra Modi at the UN. For the last 15 days, the question of Kashmir was being raised by Pakistan for human rights violations, but in the speech at the United Nations, the question of Kashmir became completely a Muslim issue.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his brief speech of 18 minutes gave the message to the world that India has never adopted the path of confrontation and war and has always been in favour of peace and harmony.
Ironically Imran Khan, a self-proclaimed saviour of Kashmir is the person who has threatened to devastate Kashmir with nuclear war. He was probably also irked that Narendra Modi did not even mention Pakistan even once during his seven-day visit to America. Modi beckoned the world to share the journey and experiences of India’s achievements. Contrary to this, Imran Khan is ranting of nuclear apocalypse and war, prophesying how not only India and Pakistan but other countries will also feel the heat.
Interestingly, Imran Khan flared up as soon as the word 'terrorism' is mentioned. Now he is blaming the US for terrorism in Pakistan. He asserts that western countries have fallen victim to 'Islamophobia'.
At the ‘Howdy Modi’ event in Houston, US President Donald Trump announced the continuation of the campaign against "radical Islamic terrorism". India has never associated terrorism with religion and asserts that terrorism has no religion.
The United States and other western countries believe that the problem of terrorism is primarily related to Islamic terrorism. Imran Khan made a ridiculous claim that there is no terrorist organization active in Pakistan. India, Iran and Afghanistan, however, insist terrorists are being exported from Pakistan. It's well documented and established that terrorist training camps in Pakistan are run under the patronage of the its army.
Secretary of Indian foreign ministry Vidisha Maitra responding to Imran Khan's speech, made it clear through the facts how the terrorism industry in Pakistan is booming. Pakistan's credibility on the question of terrorism is equal to zero.
Imran Khan's profane, inflammatory speech should be a matter of concern for India; Pakistan will go all out to ferment trouble in India employing its intimidating tactics. Khan clearly wants to see dead bodies strewn all over in Kashmir Valley. They believe that the more bloodshed, the more it will succeed in increasing the intervention of the international community. Therefore, the biggest challenge for India will be to maintain peace in the Kashmir Valley and to expel Pakistani militants at the border.
The diplomatic war between India and Pakistan at the United Nations meeting has also made it clear that almost all countries except Turkey and China accept that the abolition of Articles 370 and 35A is an internal matter of India.
The US State Department has also ratified this view of India. Muslim countries like the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia have rendered a big blow to Pakistan’s hope by openly supporting India. Imran Khan is now trying to fight Kashmir on the basis of Muslims vs others which will fall on its face.
