New Delhi: A day after a special court of National Investigation Agency (NIA) sent Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity (KMSS) president Akhil Gogoi to 10-days NIA custody, anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) leader Prabin Das on Wednesday demanded the release of Gogoi.
Das condemned the government for the arrest of prominent RTI activist and peasant leader, Gogoi.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, Das said, "Gogoi was arrested following a conspiracy by the government to douse the anti-CAA agitation and we demand his immediate release.

He also said that on several occasions, Gogoi was arrested by the security agencies "without any proper reason."
"This CAA is anti-people as far as Assam is concerned. We will never accept it. The government always try to use its forces to take control of the situation. Whenever people try to speak against the government, forces are being used to counter them," Das said.
It is to be noted that Gogoi was arrested under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) amid protests over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
He was arrested by Assam police on December 12 in Jorhat and later he was handed over to the NIA.
Ever since the anti-CAA agitation started, according to the government official, over 190 people have been arrested by the Assam police for their alleged involvement in the violent incidents during the anti-CAA protests across the state.
