Jaipur(Rajasthan): The Gujarat Congress on Sunday shifted its seven more legislators to party- ruled Rajasthan's private resort in Abu Road in a bid to prevent alleged attempts at poaching by the ruling BJP ahead of Rajya Sabha polls scheduled at June 19.

It had earlier sent about 23 MLAs to a private resort in Rajasthan’s Abu Road town.

Accusing BJP of misusing its power, Congress MLA Kirit Patel said, "The ruling party is using its powers in a wrong way and are making attempts to defame Congress."

On the same note, he added, "There is no pressure on the Congress MLAs and legislators have come here for a tour. BJP is putting a pressure on our MLAs but leaders have come to the resort on their own. Nobody has forced them."

The names of the 30 MLAs put up in the resort are Chandan Thakore, Bharat Thakor, Gainiben Thakor, Shivbhai Bhuria, Gulab Singh Rajput, Kanti Kharadi, CJ Chavda, Baldev Thakor Reetik Makwana, Rajesh Gohil, Mahesh Patel, Rajendra Singh Thakor, Ashwin Kotwal, Wajesi Panada, Jashubhai Patel, Naushad Solanki, Lakhbhai Bharwad, Nathabhai Patel, Suresh Patel, Girit Patel, Sailesh Parmar, Himmat Bhai Patel, Anil Joshi, Kalusin Dabi, Kanti Sodha, Niranjan Patel, Ajitsinh Chauhan, Kanti Bhai Parmar, Poonam Bhai Parmar and Jaswant Singh Padhiyar.

After Congress had shifted its 23 MLAs to a private resort in Rajasthan, a police complaint was filed on the alleged violation of lockdown norms. Nagar Palika Chairman Suresh Sindal, OBC Morcha District President Manish Morwal and other party leaders had demanded strict action against resort owners for allowing MLAs to stay at the place amid corona induced lockdown.

After the resignation of three MLAs, the strength of the Congress in the state Assembly has been reduced to 65. So far, eight MLAs have tendered their resignations from the party making it difficult for the Congress to win two RS seats for which it has fielded Bharatsinh Solanki and Shaktisinh Gohil. On the other hand, BJP has fielded Abhay Bhardwaj, Ramilaben Bara, and Narhari Amin for the election to four seats.

On June 4, Congress MLAs Akshay Patel and Jitu Chaudhary had tendered their resignation to the Gujarat Assembly speaker Rajendra Trivedi. Just a day after, Brijesh Merja also resigned as MLA as well as from the primary member of the party.
