80,000 CRPF jawans, kin pledge to organ donation

In a humanitarian gesture, over 80,000 CRPF personnel and their families have pledged to organ donation. The force personnel had earlier joined the Cyclothon to raise nationwide awareness about organ donation.

New Delhi: Over 80,000 Central Reserve Police force (CRPF) and their family members have pledged to organ donation. This is probably for the first time that pledge to organ donation on such a large scale has taken place.

The paramilitary force has joined hands with AIIMS' Organ Retrieval Banking Organization (ORBO) for a massive organ donation campaign- 'E-Sanjeevani'. E-Sanjeevani was started on the National Organs Donation Day in August this year and ends on November 27, according to a statement by the CRPF. The jawans, through this awareness drive, also encouraged 1,20,000 security personnel for organ donation.

Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan was also present in the webinar and lauded the efforts of CRPF and ORBO That had led to such a significant increase in the number of organ donations in a brief period.

The force personnel had earlier joined the Cyclothon to raise nationwide awareness about organ donation on November 22.

Dr (Prof) Aarti Vij, Head, ORBO, recounted that it was CRPF's Mahila Battalion which pledged its organs before the erstwhile President of India Pratibha Patil on the occasion of Women's Day.

The National Organ Tissue Transplant organization also issued an organ donation card to all the CRPF employees to ensure that the donated organ reaches the desired family.

Several webinars, seminars, workshops, and awareness campaigns were conducted to encourage the voluntary participation of CRPF personnel for the humane cause. In this campaign, the personnel could pledge a donation of eyes, skin, lungs, heart, liver, pancreas, kidney, heart valves, intestine, and blood vessels.
