Kanpur(Uttar Pradesh): At least 56 madrassa students, who had come in contact with Tablighi Jamaat members suffering from coronavirus, have tested positive for the virus in Kanpur on Monday. The infected students are in the age group of 10-20 years and had come in contact with Jammatis who had returned to the city after attending the Delhi Nizamuddin congregation in March.
According to reports, most of them are residents of Bihar and have been quarantined.With more than 42 cases, Coolie Bazar has emerged as the biggest hotspot in the city.
Senior Superintendent of Police Anant Dev said, "Several young children from three madrassas have tested positive for the infection. At least 42 of them are from Coolie Bazar. Another Madarassa in Machhariya area and Jajmau has reported eight and six positive cases respectively".
He further added, "The administration has sealed all the affected areas. We are taking all precautionary measures to contain the spread. The Jamaatis were staying at Madarassas and now they have emerged as the biggest Covid-19 hotspot".
Uttar Pradesh has reported 1955 positive COVID cases and has claimed 31 lives till now.
