New Delhi: At a time when Congress leader Rahul Gandhi suspended all his political rallies and Mamata Banerjee reduced her rallies to small meetings due to spike in Covid-19 cases, Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP general secretary JP Nadda will hold four election public meetings in West Bengal on Monday.

Union Minister Amit Shah will address three public meetings and will hold one roadshow, while JP Nadda will address two public meetings, one roadshow and one town hall meeting.

The sixth phase of the West Bengal assembly elections will take place on April 22. There are 306 candidates including 27 women in the fray. BJP and TMC are contesting all 43 seats. While Congress fielded 12 candidates, CPIM is contesting 23 seats.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission on Friday ordered curbs on campaigning for the last three phases of West Bengal elections, including extending the silence period before voting from 48 hours to 72 hours and barring all campaigning from 7 pm to 10 am.

The state on Sunday recorded new 8,419 covid cases taking the total number of cases in the state to 659,927. 28 deaths were reported in the state on Sunday taking the total number of deaths to 10,568.
