New Delhi: After police took action against some people for allegedly putting up posters critical of the prime minister in the national capital on the vaccine issue, questions are being raised on the arrests of the accused.
The police had arrested 25 people in connection with the case, most of whom are auto-rickshaw drivers, shop owners, daily wage labourers, and unemployed people.
While the police claim that the FIRs were registered according to the law, legal experts pointed out that the law was being misused by them.
Amidst all this, Delhi advocate Bharat Bhushan has prepared to file a petition for anticipatory bail of the accused named Arvind, which he has filed in the court on Tuesday.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, Bhushan said the arrests were “illegal” as there are no such sections under which the concerned person will be arrested after filing the FIR. If the police question or even take into custody then the person can be released on bail.
While, the accused Arvind said to be at large now, advocate Bhushan says that his client is not absconding and his anticipatory bail petition has been filed in the court.
In the past few days, several posters criticising PM Modi’s vaccination strategy had surfaced across the national capital. The posters read: “Modiji humare bachon ki vaccine videsh kyu bhej diya (Modiji, why did you send vaccines of our children to foreign countries?)”.
In response, the Delhi Police registered 25 cases in the matter under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code, read with sections of the Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act and Press and Registration of Books Act.
