Pune: NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule cast her vote at a polling booth in the Baramati constituency in Pune district of Maharashtra on Wednesday.Talking to reporters Sule in a counterattack to BJP's 'Batenge toh Katenge' remarks said, "It's very sad because it would've been better if BJP would've said 'Padhenge aur Badhenge' (with education we'll grow) instead of 'Batenge aur Katenge'. Education matters more in this country because we don't teach children about divide and rule but about education and that should be the tagline of India."Baramati assembly seat will see a contest between NCP leader and Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar and NCP (SP) candidate and Pawar's nephew Yugendra Pawar. Mumbai: Baba Siddique's son and MLA Zeeshan Siddique on Wednesday cast his vote in Mumbai as polling began for Maharashtra assembly elections. Talking to PTI, Siddique urged voters to exercise their voting rights and said he feels his father Baba Siddique is with him."I have come out to vote and I would appeal to everyone to come out and vote. It is your right to choose a government and be a part of the world's largest democracy. It is different because my father is not with me but it feels he is with me. And I am going forward with that strength," Siddique said.Voting began in all the 288 assembly seats at 7 am and will end at 6 pm, an election official said. The votes will be counted on November 23. Over 9.7 crore voters will be choosing from among the 4,136 candidates in the fray, the official said.In the Mahayuti alliance, the BJP is contesting 149 seats, Shiv Sena is in the fray in 81 seats, and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP has fielded candidates in 59 constituencies. In the opposition’s MVA combine, the Congress has fielded 101 candidates, Shiv Sena (UBT) 95, and NCP (SP) has put up 86 candidates.Smaller parties, including the Bahujan Samaj Party and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM), are also contesting, with BSP fielding 237 candidates and AIMIM 17 in the 288-member Lower House. Ranchi: The INDIA bloc and the NDA will lock horns as Jharkhand began polls in 38 of the total 81 assembly seats at 7 am, marking the conclusion of polling in the state. The first phase took place on November 13 and the counting of votes for both phases is set for November 23.It is to be noted that this second phase will decide the electoral fate of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren (JMM), his wife Kalpana Soren (JMM), and Leader of Opposition Amar Kumar Bauri (BJP) among other prominent candidates in the fray.Polling started in 14,218 polling stations and will continue till 5 pm. However, polling across 31 booths will end at 4 pm. A total of 1.23 crore voters including 60.79 lakh women and 147 third gender voters are eligible to vote in this second phase of polls today. A total of 528 candidates including 472 men, 55 women and a third gender person are participating in this electoral battle.The constituencies that are going to poll today are RajmahalBorio (ST). Barhait (ST), Litipara (ST), Pakaur, Maheshpur (ST), Sikaripara (ST), Nala, Jamtara, Dumka (ST), Jama (ST), Jarmundi, Madhupur, Sarath, Deoghar (SC), Poreyahat, Godda, Mahagama, Ramgarh, Mandu, Dhanwar, Bagodar, Jamua (SC), Gandey, Giridih, Dumri, Gomia, Bermo, Bokaro, Chandankiyari (SC), Sindri, Nirsa, Dhanbad, Jharia, Tundi, Baghmara, Silli, and Khijri (ST).In the 2019 assembly elections, the JMM emerged victorious with 30 seats and the BJP secured 25 seats, down from 37 in 2014. The JMM-Congress-RJD alliance had a clean sweep with 47 seats.
