'Honour Killing' In Uttar Pradesh: Teen Strangled To Death In Meerut, Brother Held

The victim was in an affair with a boy from another community and had eloped with him twice. The accused opposed his sister's relationship but the latter refused to snap ties with the boy. When the girl tried to meet the boy today, her brother became furious and in a fit of rage allegedly strangled her to death.

Meerut (Uttar Pradesh): A suspected honour killing case has come to light in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut district, where a 16-year-old girl was allegedly strangled to death by her brother after she attempted to meet her boyfriend, with whom she had eloped a few days ago, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place under Inchauli police station area of the district. The victim has been identified as Anjali while her brother, Haseen Kumar, has been arrested and currently being questioned. Haseen, a resident of Nagla Shekhu, works as an electrician in the locality.

Police said some days back, the girl's family had reported that she had eloped with a boy. After which, the teenager was found and handed over to her family members.

According to police station in-charge Yogendra Singh, Anjali was having an affair with a boy from another community and lived at his maternal uncle's house in the village. "Anjali had eloped with this boy twice resulting which Haseen was very upset with her. He had repeatedly asked his sister to snap ties with the boy but she had blatantly refused.

On Wednesday morning, a fight broke out between the siblings at home over some issue and Anjali wanted to go to her boyfriend's place. When Haseen got to know about this, he tried to stop his sister but she was adamant on meeting the boy. A verbal altercation rose and in a fit of rage, Haseen allegedly strangled his sister to death.

Inchauli police station in-charge Yogendra Singh said Haseen has been arrested and investigations are underway. Further action will be taken after interrogating Haseen, he said.
