AMU Assures Help To Bangladeshi Students Amid Unrest Back Home

Nearly 31 Bangladeshi students who are studying in AMU said they feel safe in India but are worried about their families back home. The AMU authorities held a meeting with them today and assured them of help.

Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh): In the wake of the ongoing unrest in Bangladesh, the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) administration held a meeting with the Bangladeshi students on Tuesday and assured them of all possible help.

Currently, around 31 students studying in AMU hail from Bangladesh and all of them said that they feel safe in India.

A Bangladeshi student, Payal Rai, who is doing her PhD from AMU, said she is extremely worried about her family and relatives back home. "The present situation in Bangladesh is a cause of worry for the entire country. At AMU, the atmosphere is good and everything is fine", she said.

Payal had left Bangladesh in 2022 and since then has been studying in India. She has not been able to contact her family members due to network issues as her house is located in a village and whatever information she is getting is through TV channels and social media.

Another Bangladeshi student Abu Saeed, also a PhD scholar in AMU said she spoke to her parents few days ago but ever since violence erupted she has not been able to contact them. She, however said that she has learnt from some sources that her family and relatives are safe. "I am just praying to God that the situation there becomes normal soon," Abu said.

AMU deputy proctor S Ali Zaidi said, "We are all concerned about the present situation in Bangladesh and so a meeting was held with the Bangladeshi students studying here. If they are having any problem related to Bangladesh, then we will take up those issues."

Prof. Zaidi said the primary aim of the university is to ensure that all students are safe and also to address their problems Presently, there are 31 Bangladeshi students and admissions are on so more students are expected, Prof. Zaidi added.
