Paris (France): Indian women’s table tennis conceded a defeat against Germany on Wednesday by 1-3. Also, wrestler Anitm Panghal lost against Yetgil Zeynep of Turkey by technical superiority.
Antim was looking in trouble right from the start. The opponent pulled off moves right from the start and took a 0-10 lead to win the match by technical superiority. Although Antim has lost her match, she is still in medal contention and can fight for bronze via the repechage round if her opponent makes it in the finals.
It was a disappointing start from the Indian duo of Sreeja Akula and Archana Kamath as they lost the first match of the tie by 1-3. After losing the first game by 5-11, the pair bounced back with an 11-8 win in the second game. The German pair of Wan Yuan and Shan Xiona won the match by 11-5, 8-11, 12-10, and 11-6 as a result.
The veteran paddler Manika Batra was up next and she hinted at an Indian comeback winning the first game in the match. But, Germany’s Kaufmann Anett then won three games on a trot and won the fixture by 8-11, 11-5, 11-7, and 11-5. India were on the brink of elimination now as they were tailing by 0-2.
Archana Kamath then scripted a way for Inda’s comeback as she defeated Shan Xiona by 3-1. In the first game, it was a fierce battle with Archana winning with a score of 19-17. German took the next game by 11-1 but Archana then won the next two games by 11-5, 11-9. India were now trailing by 1-3 and the German player Kaufmann wrapped up the tie with a victory over Sreeja Akula in the fourth match.
