39 Trains Cancelled, 61 Diverted As 11 Wagons Of Goods Train Jump Track In Peddapalli

The iron ore-laden goods train was running from Bellary in Karnataka to UP's Ghaziabad when the joints of the wagons detached leading to the mishap.

Hyderabad: The South Central Railway (SCR) cancelled 39 trains and diverted 61 after 11 bogies of a goods train jumped the track between Peddapalli and Ramagundam in Telangana on Tuesday night. Seven trains were partially cancelled and another seven were rescheduled.

The iron ore-laden goods train with 44 bogies left Bellary in Karnataka for Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh and the detachment of the joints between the coaches led to the derailment, following which the bogies jumbled up damaging three tracks. As the goods train was running on the main line, services between Chennai-Delhi and Chennai-Secundrabad were affected. The entire area was cut off from electricity as the overhead wires snapped.

SCR general manager Arun Kumar Jain was at the spot to monitor the restoration work. He said about 600 workers and heavy machinery were mobilised to restore the damaged tracks. Following the accident, trains were stopped at Peddapalli and other stations.

Union minister of state for home, Bandi Sanjay, who was busy campaigning for BJP in Maharashtra, spoke to officials over the phone about the restoration work. The cancelled trains include Yesvantpur-Muzaffarpur, Kacheguda-Nagarsol, Kacheguda-Karimnagar, Secunderabad-Rameswaram, Rameswaram-Secunderabad, Secunderabad-Tirupati, Adilabad-Parli, Akola-Purna, Adilabad-Nanded, Nizamabad-Kacheguda, Kacheguda-Raichur, Guntakal-Bodhan, Kacheguda-Guntakal, Hyderabad-Sirpur Kagaznagar, Secunderabad-Sirpur Kagaznagar, Sirpur Kagaznagar-Secunderabad, Kazipet-Sirpur Town, Sirpur Town-Karimnagar, Karimnagar-Bodhan, Bodhan-Karimnagar, Karimnagar-Sirpur Town, Sirpur Town-Bhadrachalam Town, Bhadrachalam Road-Ballarshah and Ballarshah-Kazipet.

Partially cancelled trains include Pune-Karimnagar, Karimnagar-Pune, Sirpur Kagaznagar-Bidar Nagpur-Secunderabad and Secunderabad-Nagpur.

Trains which have been diverted include Patna-Ernakulum, Danapur-SMVT Bengaluru, Darbhanga-Mysuru, H Nizamuddin-Secuderabad, Jaipur-Coimbatore, Darbhanga-Secunderabad, Muzaffarpur-Secunderabad, Rameswaram-Firozpur Cantt, H Nizamuddin-KSR Bengaluru City and SMVD Katra-Kanniyakumari.
