Delhi/Chandigarh: Gangster Joginder Gyong, facing Interpol Red Notice, was deported from the Philippines to Delhi on Sunday.

He was handed over to Delhi Police upon landing at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had got a Red Notice issued against Joginder Gyong from Interpol on October 25, 2024, which was circulated to all the law enforcement agencies globally for tracking the wanted criminal, an agency spokesperson said in a statement.

Gyong had been staying in the Philippines for the last two years under a fake identity. Delhi Police Additional CP Special Cell Pramod Kumar Kushwaha said the deportation of Gyong was the result of a joint operation of Delhi Police and Haryana STF. "Gyong and his brother Surinder were active associates of Kaushal Chaudhary. Surinder was killed in a shootout with the police in 2017, after which Gyong fled to Philippines via Nepal. Gyong was trying to re-establish Chaudhary's network in Philippines. This was a major cause of concern for us as Kaushal Chaudhary's active involvement was found in three terrorist cases in Punjab. We tracked down Gyong and the intelligence was shared with Haryana Police. He was then traced in Philippines and deported to India. He will now be questioned in police remand," he said.

Delhi Police said Gyong was apprehended by the Philippines Bureau of Immigration (PBI) from Bacolod City, acting on India's request for his extradition. According to PBI officials, Gyong was identified as an "Indian-Nepalese national" and a key figure in a separatist terror network, Delhi Police said. Gyong is a resident of Gyong village in Kaithal. He is also known as Joga Don. Several cases of murder and ransom are pending against him in Haryana, Punjab, Delhi and UP. At least 17 cases are registered against Gyong in Kaithal alone. Gyong came to limelight when he threatened Congress MP Randeep Singh Surjewala. Apart from this, he is also accused of demanding extortion of Rs 20 crore from Bihar RJD MP Sanjay Yadav. A reward of Rs 1 lakh was announced on his arrest.
