এদিন জয়যাত্রার সূচনা হয়েছিল বজরং পুনিয়ার হাত ধরে । 65 কেজি ফ্রিস্টাইল বিভাগে কানাডার লাচলান ম্যাকনিলকে 9-2 ব্যবধানে হারিয়ে সোনা জেতেন ভারতীয় তারকা । গোল্ড কোস্টের পর বার্মিংহাম কমনওয়েলথ গেমসেও সোনা জিতলেন তিনি (Bajrang Punia Triumph At Commonwealth Games) ।

এরপরেই দেশকে সোনা এনে দেন সাক্ষী মালিকও ৷ 62 কেজি ফ্রিস্টাইল বিভাগের ফাইনালে কানাডার আনা গোদিনেজ গঞ্জালেজের বিরুদ্ধে একসময় ০-৪ পিছিয়ে পড়েছিলেন। এরপরেই টানা চারটি পয়েন্ট জেতেন । শেষ পর্যন্ত পয়েন্ট সমান হওয়ায় ‘ভিকট্রি বাই ফল’-এর বিচারে বাজিমাত করেন তিনি (Sakshi Malik wins Gold) ।

বজরং-সাক্ষীর পর তৃতীয় সোনা ঘরে তোলেন দীপক পুনিয়া। 86 কেজি ফ্রিস্টাইল বিভাগে পাকিস্তানের মহম্মদ ইনামকে 3-0 পয়েন্টে হারান তিনি । বুদ্ধি এবং শক্তির প্যাচে পড়শি দেশের কুস্তিগীরকে কার্যত দাঁড়াতেই দেননি তিনি (Deepak Punia clinches Gold in CWG for first time) ।

অন্যদিকে, 57 কেজি বিভাগে নাইজেরিয়ার প্রতিদ্বন্দীর বিরুদ্ধে শেষ পর্যন্ত লড়াই চালিয়ে যান অংশু । ফাইনাল বাউট শেষ হয় 4-8 পয়েন্টে । রুপো নিয়েই সন্তুষ্ট থাকতে হয়ে তাঁকে । 68 কেজি ফ্রিস্টাইলে ব্রোঞ্জ জিতেছেন দিব্যা কাঁকরান । 125 কেজি ফ্রিস্টাইলে তৃতীয় হয়েছেন মোহিত গ্রেওয়াল ।

চলতি কমনওয়েলথে এখনও পর্যন্ত সবচেয়ে বেশি পদক এনেছেন দেশের পাওয়ার-লিফটাররা । তিনটি সোনা-সহ ভারোত্তোলনে ভারতের প্রাপ্তি দশটি পদক । সোনা জয়ের সংখ্যায় এবার তাঁদের ছুঁয়ে ফেললেন মল্লযোদ্ধারা । সব মিলিয়ে বার্মিংহামে রাজ করছেন ভারতীয় 'পালোয়ান'রাই ।
