New Delhi:A man-made water tank inside Baoli Wali Masjid distinguishes it from the other mosques. The mosque is situated in Old Delhi's Matiya Mahal.
It is said that this step-well is around 500 years old and has been quenching the thirst of the residents of Matiya Mahal area since then.
Abdul Majeed, one of the oldest residents of the Matiya Mahal street said, "Our ancestors said that nomads used to stay in the area several hundred years ago. This Baoli is from the same era."
Baoli Wali Masjid, a mosque situated in Old Delhi's Matiya Mahal The Baoli is said to be older than the Mughal period as it was built before the construction of Jama Masjid in Delhi.
He further said, "This is the only source of water in the area and even after using it for several years now, the water level of the Baoli never decreased nor does it require any treatment."
Earlier, to draw water from the Baoli, people used ropes, but an electric motor is being used by the residents of the area for the past four decades.
The Government of Delhi and the Municipal Corporation looks after the maintenance of the step-well.
