Jaisalmer: In a bid to enhance security and thwart infiltration, the old fences on India's border with Pakistan will be replaced with new ones.

The enhanced fencing is being done under the direction of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Considered a vital step towards strengthening border security, the project has started from the border at Sri Ganganagar. The new fencing will be installed on the 1,000 km long border with Pakistan.

BSF IG ML Garg said smart technology will be used in the new fencing. He said the 'smart fencing' will integrate gadgets and technical equipment to increase the surveillance capacity of BSF on the border. He said through the devices, the BSF will get immediate information on suspicious activities. Cameras, sensors and other surveillance equipment will be used in smart fencing through which any infiltration attempt or other suspicious activities can be detected in advance. Apart from this, satellite-based surveillance, drones and other technical means will also be used to enhance 24x7 monitoring of every activity on the border, Garg said. The smart fencing will also improve the response time of BSF personnel guarding the border.

This apart, the Government of India is improving the road infrastructure in the border area. The move is aimed at enhancing mobility of the security forces and provide quick access to the border in case of any emergency. The step will not only increase the efficiency of the security forces but also secure the lives of the citizens residing in border areas.
