Uttar Pradesh: Motorcyclist Dies After Being Hit, Dragged Under SUV In Sambhal

Police registered a case against an SUV driver following where his car hit and dragged a motorcyclist for some distance on Monday.

Sambhal:A motorcyclist was killed after being hit and dragged by an SUV for some distance in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal district, police said on Monday. A case of culpable homicide has been registered against the SUV driver.

The tragic incident occurred on Sunday evening when Sukhveer, 50, was returning home from Hayatnagar. As he rode along Moradabad Road, a speeding Bolero SUV struck him and dragged him under the vehicle for some distance.

The case came to light after a video of the horrifying accident was shared on social media on Monday. The footage shows the SUV dragging the motorcycle beneath it, with sparks flying as it sped away. A BJP sticker bearing the title "Gram Pradhan" was visible on the SUV's rear windshield.

The victim was identified as Sukhveer (50), a resident of Shahjad Kheda village, police said. Sukhveer was rushed to Sambhal Hospital and later referred to Moradabad for advanced treatment. He succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Monday, according to the police complaint.

Station House Officer (SHO) Anuj Kumar Tomar confirmed that a case of culpable homicide has been registered against the driver. The SUV has been seized, and an investigation is underway.

In the recent past, multiple incidents of bikers and pedestrians being hit by vehicles and then dragged for several kilometres have come to the fore. Earlier this month, a similar incident was reported from UP's Bahraich where a biker was dragged for 30 km by a vehicle. The victim identified as Narendra Kumar Haldar (35), a resident of Payagpur, was returning home on December 19 evening when the accident occurred on the Nanpara-Bahraich road.

According to reports quoting police officials, Haldar's body was trapped in the vehicle and was dragged for the entire distance.
