Meerut (Uttar Pradesh):A suspected honour killing case has come to light in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut district, where a 16-year-old girl was allegedly strangled to death by her brother after she attempted to meet her boyfriend, with whom she had eloped a few days ago, police said on Wednesday.
The incident took place under Inchauli police station area of the district. The victim has been identified as Anjali while her brother, Haseen Kumar, has been arrested and currently being questioned. Haseen, a resident of Nagla Shekhu, works as an electrician in the locality.
Police said some days back, the girl's family had reported that she had eloped with a boy. After which, the teenager was found and handed over to her family members.
According to police station in-charge Yogendra Singh, Anjali was having an affair with a boy from another community and lived at his maternal uncle's house in the village. "Anjali had eloped with this boy twice resulting which Haseen was very upset with her. He had repeatedly asked his sister to snap ties with the boy but she had blatantly refused.
