New Delhi: In the high-stakes contest for the Greater Kailash Assembly seat in the Delhi Assembly Elections, AAP candidate Saurabh Bharadwaj was defeated by BJP's Shikha Roy by over 3000 votes as the counting of the votes for the segment concluded on Saturday.
Roy was declared the winner by a slim margin of 3188 votes. The BJP candidate polled 49594 votes while Bharadwaj got 46406. Congress Garvit Singh was at a distant third and could manage only 6711 votes.
Saurabh Bharadwaj was seeking a fourth term from the seat however Shikha managed to avenge her 2020 loss. The AAP national chief spokesperson who has also been a minister in the Delhi government had won in 2020, 2015 and 2013 Assembly polls. Greater Kailash seat is located in the New Delhi district of Delhi and comes under the New Delhi Lok Sabha constituency.
Speaking on his win, Roy expressed gratitude towards the top leadership of the party, appreciating the selection of candidates for the Delhi assembly polls.
She said that the government's work will be visible in the next few months since backlogs left by the previous government need to be fixed.
"I thank the top leadership for a great election campaigning, selection of candidates...I thank the party (BJP) workers who worked hard to put an end to the problems of Delhi and I thank the people who chose to hand over the government of Delhi to PM Modi... The government's work will be visible in the next few months, though it will take some time to fix the backlogs left by the previous government," Roy said.
