Shivpuri: A 30-year-old Dalit man, Narad Jatav, was allegedly beaten to death by a village sarpanch and seven of his family members over a land dispute in Indergarh village of Shivpuri district, police said. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening and has sparked widespread outrage.
According to the police, the conflict began when Jatav and his maternal uncle objected to a road being constructed through their land to a hotel owned by the sarpanch, Padam Dhakad. Following this dispute, Jatav removed the water supply line from a common borewell that serviced the hotel. The sarpanch, along with his family members, allegedly attacked Jatav and his uncle with sticks and water piped while they were irrigating their field.
Kotwali police station in-charge Kripal Singh Rathore confirmed the incident, saying, "Narad Jatav was attacked and succumbed to his injuries during treatment at Shivpuri Medical College. We have registered a case of murder against eight people, including the sarpanch, his wife, and sons. Efforts are underway to apprehend the accused, who are currently absconding."
