Man Who Fell Into 40-Foot-Deep Borewell in Delhi Dead, Body Retrieved

A man fell into a borewell at a Delhi Jal Board water treatment plant. After around 12 years of rescue operation, the body of the man was retrieved.

New Delhi:The body of a man, who fallen into a 40-foot-deep borewell at a Delhi Jal Board water treatment plant here, was retrieved after a nearly 12-hour-long rescue operation on Sunday, Water Minister Atishi said. The identity of the man is yet to be ascertained.

Taking to X (formally known as Twitter), the minister said, "It is with great sadness I share the news that the man, who fell into the borewell was found dead by the rescue team. According to initial information, the deceased was aged around 30 years. "How he fell into the borewell will be investigated by the police. I thank the NDRF team, who made every possible effort in the rescue operation for many hours," she said in the post.

Teams from the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are in charge of the rescue operation. DFS and NDRF received the information at 1 am stating that someone fell into a borewell at the DJB facility in the Keshopur Mandi in west Delhi. Reacting to the incident, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, "Those responsible will be punished". He further said, "We will seal all abandoned borewells". (With Agency Inputs)
