Hyderabad: Veteran actor Kavita Chaudhary, best known for her roles in the TV show Udaan and as Lalitaji in Surf commercials, breathed her last on Thursday. The deceased actor's nephew Ajay Sayal confirmed the news to a newswire, stating that the late actor had suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away at the age of 67 in Amritsar on Thursday night.
Sayal stated that she passed away yesterday at 8:30 pm due to cardiac arrest. He further informed that she was receiving treatment at Parvati Devi Hospital in Amritsar before her demise.
Anang Desai, an actor who studied with Kavita at the National School of Drama, expressed his sorrow told a portal that he received the news of Kavita's demise on Friday morning. The actor stated that they were classmates at NSD and spent three years together during their training. He further mentioned that he, Kavita, Satish Kaushik, Anupam Kher, and Govind Namdev were all part of the same batch.
Anang said Kavita had battled cancer a few years ago, and even though they met after that, she preferred to keep it private, hence they never discussed the matter. "She was originally from Amritsar and passed away there. Around fifteen days ago, I had a conversation with her while she was in Mumbai, and she wasn't in the best of health. It was this morning when Kavita's nephew informed me about her death," said the actor.
Udaan, which aired in 1989, featured Kavita in the role of IPS officer Kalyani Singh. She not only acted in the show but also wrote and directed it. The show was based on the life of her sister, Kanchan Chaudhary Bhattacharya, who became the second IPS officer after Kiran Bedi. Kavita was also recognized for her portrayal of Lalitaji in the popular Surf ads of the 1980s and 1990s.
