Hyderabad: A statement about Women Premier League on X was falsely attributed to actor Siddharth on Monday, who later clarified that he does not have an account on the social media platform.
Several media houses reported Siddharth allegedly questioning the absence of women on streets to celebrated Royal Challengers Bangalore's victory in WPL on Sunday.
The reports were generated based on a post on X by a user [@DearthOfSid] who shared a video on Sunday night in which several men were seen dancing on the streets, apparently celebrating the RCB's WPL victory. "A team of women won a tournament but not a single woman on the street to celebrate. A quintessential moment of patriarchy in India," wrote the X user, whose account name happens to be Siddharth.
As the post was widely shared, several portals attributed it to actor Siddharth, so much so that he had to issue a clarification on his Instagram account that he had not made any such statement about WPL. "I am not on Twitter or X. Please stop crediting me what someone else is saying on that website," the actor's post on Instagram read.
