Mumbai:Comedian Kapil Sharma, actor Rajpal Yadav, choreographer Remo D'Souza and actor-comedian Sugandha Mishra have received death threats through email, making them the latest celebrities to receive such threats in recent times.

All of them received the same email in which the sender signed off as 'BISHNU'. Part of the mail reads: "We are monitoring your recent activities and we believe it is important that we bring to your attention a sensitive matter. This is not a publicity stunt or an attempt to harass you, we urge you to treat this message with utmost seriousness and confidentiality."

The email, sent on December 14, 2024, raised concerns and led to a formal complaint, with police claiming that it was sent from Pakistan. The celebrities were asked to reply within 8 hours or face consequences.

A case was registered at the Amboli police station in Mumbai on the complaint of actor Rajpal Yadav. Sugandha Mishra, Remo D'Souza too filed complaints after receiving the same threatening email. Police are now investigating the threat and the person behind the malicious email.

Of late, Mumbai police have been on an increased level of vigilance as the law and order of the city seems to be shaken particularly after the fatal attack on politician Baba Siddique, threats to Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, and the recent knife attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan.

Baba Siddique was shot dead near his house in the Bandra area of Mumbai in October last year. The responsibility for the murder was claimed by jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi's gang. Salman, on his part, beefed up his security, even installing bullet-proof windows on his balcony.

Last week, Saif was attacked by an assailant who barged into his Bandra house through his youngest son, Jeh's room during the early hours of Thursday. The actor sustained six stab wounds, two of which were said to be serious as they were closer to his spine.

Kapil Sharma, known for his wit and humour, has been a beloved figure in Indian entertainment for years. He first gained widespread attention with his victory on The Great Indian Laughter Challenge 3 and went on to star in hit comedy shows like Comedy Circus. However, it was the 'Comedy Nights with Kapil' show that made him one of India's most prominent comedians.

In addition to his television career, Sharma has also ventured into the film industry with roles in movies such as 'Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon', 'Firangi', 'Zwigato', and 'Crew'. More recently, he launched 'The Great Indian Kapil Show' on Netflix, which has attracted a star-studded lineup of celebrities, including Aamir Khan, and Ranbir Kapoor among others.

Remo D'Souza is a renowned dancer, choreographer, actor, and film director. He gained fame with his participation in the dance reality show "Dance India Dance" and later became a judge on the show. He also made his directorial debut with the film "F.A.L.T.U" (2011) and went on to direct several movies including ABCD: Any Body Can Dance (2013), ABCD 2 (2015), Flying Jatt (2016), and Street Dancer 3D (2020).

As for Sugandha Mishra, she is known for her singing, comedy, and acting skills after her participation in various comedy shows, including "The Kapil Sharma Show" and "Comedy Nights with Kapil."

Rajpal Yadav, known for his versatile comic roles in numerous Bollywood films, was last seen in 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3'. Directed by Anees Bazmee, the film stars Kartik Aaryan, Vidya Balan, Madhuri Dixit and Triptii Dimri, among others. (Agency inputs)
