Hyderabad: In a night filled with glitz, glamour, and celebration of cinematic excellence, Christopher Nolan stands tall as a titan of storytelling as he wins his first-ever Oscar for his global box office smash hit Oppenheimer. Nolan knocked over Jonathan Glazer of The Zone of Interest, Yorgos Lanthimos of Poor Things, Martin Scorsese of Killers of the Flower Moon, and Justine Triet of Anatomy of a Fall. The biopic, set during World War II, follows Oppenheimer, regarded as the "Father of the Atomic Bomb," at a time when he knew testing the atomic bomb would ignite the atmosphere and destroy the world, yet he pushed the button.
The Academy took to X (previously Twitter) to announce the news, captioning the post, "Congratulations on your win for Best Direction, Christopher Nolan! #Oscars." At the 96th Academy Awards, Oppenheimer won Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Supporting Actor, Best Film Editing, Best Cinematography, and Best Original Score. Before the Oscars 2024, Nolan got five nominations for three different films but never won an Academy Award. He received nominations for Best Original Screenplay for Memento (2002), Best Picture and Original Screenplay for Inception (2010), and Best Picture and Best Director for Dunkirk (2018).
