New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday declined to put on hold the oath-taking ceremony of the Nayab Singh Saini-led BJP government in Haryana. The ceremony is scheduled for today in Haryana's Panchkula.
A counsel mentioned the matter before a bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra. The bench took strong note of the plea and said it may impose costs on the petitioner for filing such a plea.
"An elected government is taking oath…," the CJI told the counsel. The bench asked the counsel, how can we restrain the elected government from taking oath? The CJI asked the petitioner’s counsel to circulate three copies of the petition for the three judges and cautioned him with the imposition of a fine.
