Darbhanga: Speaking at a credit outreach programme here in Bihar, Union Finance Minister (FM) Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi envisions women to steer economic growth in the country.
Inaugurating the programme where banks distributed loans amounting to Rs 1,388 crore to 49,137 beneficiaries, the FM said that the objective is to make government schemes accessible to every person in the country and make them financially independent.
"PM Modi's dream of establishing India as a developed nation by 2047 can only be fulfilled by empowering the general public and various institutions financially," the FM said.
Lauding the PM's efforts in encouraging women in leadership roles she said that earlier, PM Modi used to tell her that the Union budget should be women-centric. "But now he says the budget should be one that visualises women in leadership roles," she added.
The FM also acknowledged the contributions of women in the production of famous products from Mithila, ‘makhana' (foxnut) and Madhubani paintings.
The FM assured that India, which is currently the fifth largest economy will rise to be the third largest economy by 2025. We are gathering resources to turn this mission into a reality, she said.
Emphasising the PM's vision of achieving a developed India by serving the deprived, women, farmers and youth, she urged banking officials to frequent villages and work diligently to provide benefits to eligible beneficiaries of every family.
The Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana aims to revolutionise the fisheries sector by establishing a robust link between the supply and distribution chain, thereby creating fresh avenues of employment and providing consumers with freshly harvested fish, she said.
Government has diversified the Kisan Credit Card scheme, which, apart from benefitting the farmers working in the fields, is also benefitting cattle breeders, fishermen, and goat rearers, she added.
