Nashik:Maharashtra Minister and senior NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal has won from the Yeola constituency in the Nashik district by a margin of over 26,000 votes.
As per the Election Commission of India data, Bhujbal secured 1,35,023 votes against Advocate Manikrao Madhavrao Shinde, who bagged 1,08,623 votes. A total of 24 rounds of counting were held here.
Bhujbal, a former Shiv Sainik, was the mayor of Mumbai. He later switched to the Nationalist Congress Party, founded by Sharad Pawar and was elected numerous times on an NCP ticket.
When Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar caused a vertical split in the NCP, Bhujbal decided to go with Ajit Pawar. Bhubal's move had surprised many political experts.
He has done considerable amount of work in Yeola and the areas nearby. The leader is popular among the masses and is an efficient administrator.
In the 2019 polls, Bhujbal won on an undivided NCP ticket. This time around he has the support of Shiv Sena and the BJP, while Advocate Shinde has the support of Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Congress.
Bhujbal is well-connected at the ground and is known as a mass leader. Also belonging to OBC category, he attracts voters of the community and always speaks in their favour. The election results have revealed that Bhujbal has successfully sailed through and got the Maratha votes to his credit.
