Srinagar: Two terrorists were killed in an encounter as Army troops foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Saturday. The forces were able to recover warlike stores from the neutralised terrorists.

A gunfight broke out on Friday in the Gugaldhar area after troops detected suspicious movement and later found that a group of terrorists were trying to infiltrate from across the border, officials said.

Srinagar-based Chinar Corps wrote on X, “Two terrorists have been eliminated by the security forces in the ongoing Operation GUGALDHAR. War-like stores have been recovered. A search of the area is underway, and operation is in progress (sic)."

Earlier, they had posted about the exchange of fire between security forces and terrorists in the north Kashmir district on Friday.

"On October 4, 2024, based on intelligence about an infiltration attempt, a joint operation by the Indian Army and J&K Police was launched at Gugaldhar, Kupwara. Alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged, leading to an exchange of firing with terrorists. Vigilant troops carried out effective fire. Operation is in progress," Chinar Corps had posted on X.

This comes a day after an encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in the Kishtwar district, officials said. The J&K witnessed an uptick in infiltration attempts along the LoC before and during the Assembly elections, with the army claiming to have intensified anti-terrorism operations.

Lt General Rajiv Ghai, the GOC of 15 Corps, told reporters two days ago that the security forces' anti-terrorism and anti-infiltration deployment cannot be reduced to maintain the current quiet in the Kashmir
