New Delhi:Social activist Anna Hazare criticised former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for their alleged controversies, particularly the liquor policy, which led to its downfall.
The AAP was thrown out of the national capital after ruling for a decade as the BJP grabbed power in the national capital after 27 years. According to the Election Commission of India, the BJP won 48 seats in the 70-member House while the AAP managed to win only 22 seats. Over AAP's loss in the national capital, Hazare blamed the Kejriwal-led party for its incapability to focus on the 'character' of political candidates. He said that the party got tangled in liquor and money, leading to Kejriwal's damaged image and a reduction in support.
Hazare, who resides in Ralegan Siddhi village in the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra, emphasised that political candidates must possess good character and maintain an untarnished image. "While AAP talks about character, it got involved in liquor, and that dented Kejriwal's image," he said. Hazare also underscored the importance of proving one's innocence when faced with allegations and added, "The truth will remain the truth."
