New Delhi: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray met AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday, terming it as a "gesture of friendship."

"Shiv Sena (UBT) had come here to tell him that governments come and go but our relationship will remain. The people of Delhi know the work he has done in the last 10 years. In this election (in Delhi), the Election Commission had a big role," Thackeray said.

"How did the number of voters in Maharashtra increase by 47 lakhs? Who cast 76 lakh votes? Is there CCTV footage of this? The Election Commission is not answering this and is not even ready to talk about this. Such things were seen everywhere, be it Haryana, Delhi, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh or Maharashtra. Today, free and fair elections are not being held in our country, but we will fight in the interest of the country. It is important to hold free and fair elections. We are playing a game of chess with the Election Commission. If it adopts any method, then we also have to do something to answer it," he said.

"Be it the INDIA alliance or any opposition parties, we must think about what will be our next step as elections in our democracy are not free and fair anymore...It is important to discuss the issue of the deletion of voter names. We talk about these issues both in person and on telephone calls. Those who are tapping phones must know this...," Thackeray, who met Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday, said.

He was accompanied by senior Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders Sanjay Raut and Priyanka Chaturvedi during the meeting.

AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh expressed gratitude to Thackeray and the leaders who came with him saying, "It is a very good thing that the foundation of the relationship will remain strong without worrying about the election results. Aaditya Thackeray has assured this. We will move forward with the strength of this relationship. We will work for the country. There was a discussion on the public mandate and the irregularities. We will make a strategy on what we can do next."
