PM's 'Too Good' Remark to Congress' 'No Modi Wave': Phase 2 of Lok Sabha Election | As It Happened

Eighty-eight parliamentary seats in 12 states and one union territory went to polls on Friday (April 26) in phase 2 of the 7-phase Lok Sabha elections. Key politicians including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and BJP leader Hema Malini contested in this phase. According to ECI, a turnout of 60.96% was recorded as of 7 pm. The Election Commission is expected to release the final turnout in the next 24 hours.

Voting in 88 parliamentary constituencies spread over 12 states and one union territory in the second phase of Lok Sabha concluded at 6 pm on Friday with over 64% turnout recorded till 5 pm.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that phase two of the Lok Sabha polls has been "too good" for the BJP-led NDA, describing the support to the ruling alliance as unparalleled.

"Phase Two has been too good! Gratitude to the people across India who have voted today. The unparalleled support for NDA is going to disappoint the Opposition even more. Voters want NDA's good governance. Youth and women voters are powering the strong NDA support," PM Modi said in a post on X after the voting in phase 2 concluded on Friday evening.

Voting in 88 parliamentary constituencies spread over 12 states and one union territory in the second phase of Lok Sabha ended at 6 pm with nearly 61% turnout, according to the Election Commission of India. As many as 1,202 candidates, including prominent faces such as Rahul Gandhi, Shashi Tharoor, Om Birla and Hema Malini, were in the fray in this phase, the second of the 7-phased Lok Sabha election.

All 20 seats in Kerala, 14 in Karnataka, 13 in Rajasthan, eight each in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, six in Madhya Pradesh, five each in Assam and Bihar, three each in Bengal and Chhattisgarh and one each in Jammu and Kashmir, Manipur and Tripura went to polls on Friday.

More than 16 lakh polling officials had been deployed across 1.67 lakh polling stations for over 15.88 crore voters, the Election Commission (EC) said. Voters included 8.08 crore males, 7.8 crore females and 5,929 third-gender electors. As many as 34.8 lakh first-time voters were also registered to cast their votes.
