Spain's government on Friday began the process of reburying the remains of 20th-century dictator Francisco Franco.
Justice Minister Dolores Delgado said Franco's family had been given 15 days to decide on a new burial place.
The body of the general is buried at the Valley of the Fallen, on the outskirts of Madrid.
Franco built the Valley as a tribute to those fallen during his so-called "glorious crusade" in overthrowing Spain's democratic republican government during the 1936-1939 civil war.
The Franco family has indicated they want the remains interred in a family tomb under Madrid's Almudena cathedral.
But the government studies regard the church as an "unsafe" location, that could potentially lead to "public disorder".
