19 నుంచి 40 ఏళ్ల మధ్యనున్న 90మంది వాలంటీర్లపై పరిశోధన చేశారు. వారిని మూడు గ్రూపులుగా విభజించారు. అందులో మొదటి గ్రూపుకు మందు వైన్ ఆ తర్వాత బీరు ఇచ్చారు. రెండో గ్రూపుకు బీరు అనంతరం వైన్ ఇచ్చారు. మిగతా గ్రూపుకు ఏదో ఒకటి మాత్రమే ఇచ్చారు. రాత్రంతా వైద్యుల పర్యవేక్షణలో ఉంచి హ్యాంగోవర్ వివరాలను నమోదు చేసుకున్నారు.
వారం తర్వాత మళ్లీ అదే రీతిలో పరిశోధన నిర్వహించారు. కానీ ఈ సారి డ్రింకింగ్ వరుసను మార్చారు. మొదటి గ్రూప్కు ఈసారి ముందు బీరు ఇచ్చారు. రెండో గ్రూప్కు ఈ సారి వైన్ మొదట ఇచ్చారు. మిగతా గ్రూప్కు మొదటి సారి తాగని డ్రింక్ ఇచ్చారు. ఈ సారి హ్యంగోవర్ వివరాలతో పాత వాటిని పోల్చి చూశారు. ఎలాంటి మార్పు కనిపించలేదని స్పష్టం చేశారు.
